Robin Thicke and Paula Patton announce split

On Behalf of | Feb 26, 2014 | Divorce

In what is coming as a surprise to many who follow Hollywood couples, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton announced that they are ending their nine-year marriage. A representative for Patton confirmed the announcement to the Associated Press.

Thicke and Patton have reportedly known each other for more than twenty years, meeting as teenagers in high school. Patton has had a decorated acting career, appearing in “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,” “Idlelwild,” “Déjà vu” and “Baggage Claim” among other credits. Thicke, the son of noted actor Alan Thicke, had a breakout year in 2013 with his hit “Blurred Lines,” which was nominated for several Grammy Awards.

Before that, he had modest hits such as “Lost Without You.” He and Patton famously appeared in a Remy Martin VSOP commercial, and they were regularly in his music videos. He even explained how she was the inspiration for his debut album in 2003 “A Beautiful World.” The two have one child of their marriage, who was born in 2010.

Rumors abound over the reason(s) for the split. One picture of Thicke in a compromising position with a fan has circulated through the Internet, and many will not forget his infamous duet with Miley Cyrus last year.

It remains to be seen whether a divorce petition has been filed. However, in situations where couples mutually decide to separate, it is common for a joint petition to be filed after all the issues surrounding marital property, custody and parenting time have been resolved. Much like a collaborative divorce, filing a complete agreement greatly reduces the litigation costs and saves couples from the emotional toil that plagues most divorces.
