Handling media attention in high-profile divorce cases

On Behalf of | Oct 23, 2015 | Alimony

Divorce is very common in Texas, and in the United States in general. You’d think that would mean people were very used to it and didn’t pay much attention to it. On the whole, that’s true, as tons of divorces happen every day and get no attention. With high-profile cases, though, just the opposite is true.

High profile divorces could include:

— Singers– Performers– Athletes– Actors– Actresses– Millionaires

When these divorces are announced—they’re typically a matter of public record—the press goes crazy. They all want to be the first to get the scoop, to break the story. They can show up at homes, bars, places of employment, vacation homes and even the courthouse.

Clearly, getting divorced as a celebrity is far different than it is for most people. You have to deal with all of the same things, like emotional decisions, child custody agreements and division of assets, but you also have to deal with the press. Every decision is analyzed and explored online, on TV and in magazines.

If you’re in one of these divorces, then, it’s important to have a legal team that knows how to deal with the press. You still have certain rights to privacy. You don’t have to talk to press.

You must make sure that your private space is respected and that you can focus only on the truly important parts of the divorce process—especially where alimony and spousal support are concerned. Even after an agreement is reached, you need to deal with the press when the details of that agreement get out and everyone has an opinion.
