Is an uncontested divorce better financially?

Like many Texas residents who are getting a divorce, you may have financial concerns. How expensive will my divorce be? What if there is a dispute about property division? Is it going to take forever for my divorce to be finalized? These concerns are legitimate and may have you thinking about whether an uncontested divorce is right for you.

As FindLaw explains, there can be numerous benefits to an uncontested divorce if you and your spouse are open to the idea. Uncontested divorce options, such as mediation or collaborative law, often result in less stress for both parties, as well as for children. When both spouses are willing to cooperate and treat each other civilly, an uncontested divorce can be much less time-consuming than litigation.

One of the greatest advantages uncontested divorce has over litigation is the financial aspect. Through mediation or collaboration, you and your spouse would be working together to find solutions to your disagreements and concerns, rather than fighting over property, child custody and other matters in court. By keeping it simple, limiting the time you spend in negotiations and creatively solving problems, an uncontested divorce can cost significantly less money than if you went to court.

As you may imagine, the cost benefits and other advantages to an uncontested divorce can be quite persuasive, especially if you have significant assets to divide. You may find that you get along better with your ex-spouse after an uncontested divorce, which can be vital if you have children together. The information in this post is meant to educate you, but it should not replace the advice of a lawyer.
