Analyzing why men recover sooner in a divorce

On Behalf of | Jul 30, 2013 | Divorce

Ending a marriage can be a difficult time for people in Houston and in the rest of the U.S. Regardless of the circumstances behind the marital dissolution, men and women go through the same whirlwind of emotions once the papers are filed and the ensuing legal battle begins. The emotional gender war revolving around how each person recovers is an ongoing conversation.

There are still persistent misperceptions about divorce recovery and one such misperception is that men tend to move on from a divorce faster than their ex-wives. A recent article has delved deeper into this issue.

According to the author, a clinical psychologist, there are three distinct characteristics and fundamental truths shared by men. First, men are taught to be socially stronger than women. Second, men, through evolution and genetics, are programmed to perform and move forward from setbacks. Finally, men are natural hunters who seek solutions and fix problems.

While each person tends to bounce back from a divorce differently, the three male qualities are influencing factors as to how men approach divorce and how they recover. This does mean that men are not affected by the divorce. The author points out that men just approach the emotional pain and heartbreak of a divorce differently than women. But chances are it also means most men move on faster and find a new love sooner.

The author reminds female readers not to misinterpret their ex-spouse’s seeming effortlessness. As women tend to analyze and interpret what they see, the image of their ex-spouse moving on painlessly can cause more suffering. Comparing and contrasting recovery can cause feelings of being left behind, making it more difficult to bounce back. Instead, females may want to try looking inward and focusing more on their own personal development and appeal.

The level of emotional difficulties each person faces during and after a divorce dispute varies. One thing that most people agree about here in Houston is that divorce is a means to start over, learn from past mistakes and improve for the next time. A knowledgeable attorney may be able to provide more information as well as advice about divorce concerns and available options, regardless of the person’s gender.
